Time of Flight Camera

This isn't exactly NXT related, but there is an interesting new technology called a Time of Flight Camera: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-of-flight_camera Apparently it is potentially useful in the field of robotics for mapping 3D environments. I've seen stereoscopic attempts at this, but the res...

Fixing a non-working LCD Screen

If your LCD screen stops working but you can still hear your NXT brick turn on and can blindly navigate the menu, chances are one of the capacitor connections in the brick has cracked and become separated. Here are some detailed instructions to resolder the connection: http://blogs.wsd1.org/etr/?p=495

The ideal way to do this would be through the javax.microedition.lcdui classes. A Graphics object holds a pixel set, and the Screen class is used to display it.

Because we aren't fully Java ME there are some non-standard things with the way this works.

Re: new goodies for the LeJOS site...

Welcome, Peter! Those all sound like excellent ideas and I'm looking forward to these changes. - Detailed wiki-style FAQ I'm unfamiliar with Wiki projects out there, but we need one with a captcha feature or some other anti-spamming mechanism, otherwise it is a major pain with constant spam takeover...

It should be possible to make a microphone for the NXT, either I2C or analog. Sending data via Bluetooth to the PC wouldn't be a problem. You couldn't do native Bluetooth audio, though (i.e. the Brick couldn't masquerade as a Bluetooth audio device).

I have pccomms.jar and the bluecove.jar in my eclipse bild path but i am getting a ton of errors in code that was fine before. they are errors like it cant find the classes...... Is the leJOS NXJ code (as opposed to the PCComms code) having the errors? In Eclipse you need to set up PCComms projects...

Are you using USB or Bluetooth? If USB you need to add the lib dir to your path, not classpath as you have above.

Also, if you haven't already done so it might help to flash your firmware to the latest version, though technically this should work with even the standard LEGO firmware.

Using PCComms instead of iCommand

Some of you might have noticed that the pcsamples code doesn't have commands for opening and closing connections the way iCommand did. That's because the new code makes a connection automatically by first trying USB and then searching for a brick via Bluetooth. You'll need to add lib\pccomm.jar to y...

That's pretty cool. I saw a similar attempt with those ultralight indoor helicopters. Someone wanted to have the R/C helicopter under computer control, but of course it would be too heavy to put sensors on the copter so they used an external camera similar to your setup. I don't think they were succ...

Nice

Those graphics are fast. We could probably do a pretty good Gameboy style game with NXJ as it stands.

That application might be something we would want to include with leJOS NXJ at some point. We've been looking for a good "instant-action" test utility for leJOS to control motors and read sensors that is similar to the type of utilities included with NXC and RobotC.

WANTED: Student Projects Available

If you or anyone you know is looking for a computer sciences student project this year (or if you are a skilled programmer), please consider this proposal. Summary The leJOS NXJ open source project has two projects available that would make for an excellent undergrad or graduate project. The leJOS p...

For a while we had the dream of programming WAP (or WAPB) which would enable the NXT to have access to the Internet via Bluetooth without the need for any special software running on your PC. We had to give this up unfortunately because the BC4 chip in the NXT is limited in the types of services it ...

You mentioned that the battery might be getting in the way. Are the gears or axles touching it? If so, there's your problem.

That package is a little confusing at the moment because it has about three different strategies for subsumption, when really we should just pick the best one and go with that.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think we might eventually be going with the ones labeled with a 2.
