Using a motor port as a sensor port possible?

Postby flodt » Sun Nov 29, 2015 10:44 am

I am currently one sensor port short on my current project, is it possible to use a motor port with a sensor?

In general no, the hardware for the two types of ports is very different. What sensors are you trying to attach? There may be other ways to get five devices attached to the four sensor ports.

I'd need 4 color sensors and one ultrasonic.

Out of luck I'm afraid. I assume those are all EV3 sensors? In which case they are all UART based sensors and they each need UART hardware. What are you using the various sensors for? Perhaps there is some other way to do what you want but with fewer sensors?

Oh, alright.

The first two color sensors are used for line following - the other two will be used to detect signals that dictate whether to turn left or right at intersections in a competition.

The ultrasonic sensor will be used to detect obstacles.
