Teaching Students Java Bytecode using Lego Mindstorms Robots

Over the summer of 2006, I worked on a research through an research experience for undergraduates (REU) at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Our research revolved around teaching college students Java Bytecode using the RCX brick. Assignments were developed to be used in a Computer Organization course at Hope College. The assignments allowed the student to build a robot that was capable of navigating through a maze. These assignments were all written in leJOS and then the java code was converted to bytecode so it could be used for the course. The paper below was written for this research. I still have videos, code, etc for this research and if there is interest in it I will be more then happy to post them up. The paper went on to be published at SIGCSE 2007. It was an excellent experience and I learned tons about the RCX as well as leJOS.
